“Would you like to have some basic lab work done, sir?” The nurse inquired.

The man looked up from his newspaper. “Oh, I’m just here with my mom and sister, get them checked out, I’m fine.”

The nurse gently insisted. “While you’re here, what’s the harm? We’ve got the time and would love to do it for you.”

So he thought, why not? Might as well while he had the chance.

The lab processed the results over the weekend; however, something didn’t look right—something was terribly wrong. So wrong, in fact, that the doctor immediately called the man over the weekend to inform him about his serious and potentially fatal heart condition and advise him to rush immediately to urgent care.

Two other guests at the clinic tested critical on their lab work. Immediately, the lab called them as well. “I can say with certainty that we probably saved three people’s lives,” Oregon City’s medical team leader said.

At Compassion Connect we listen to this story with awe. Stories like these remind us we are here to serve those who fall through the cracks, those who need help the most. At least three people walked away with their lives because of that, and we are overcome with thankfulness.
