When Service Becomes An Exciting Challenge from God

When Service Becomes An Exciting Challenge from God

When we view service as an exciting challenge from God, we are given the opportunity to witness how faithfully He meets us in the places He calls us.

This year, Compassion Rock Point was led by a new Clinic Coordinator, Jenn Young. It was a gift to sit down with Jenn and hear about her experience and how God moved through the clinic. Her story is a testimony to what happens when we step into the places God is calling us, viewing them as an exciting challenge and trusting that He will consistently show up in the places where we lack, teaching us as we go.

When asked about the mindset of the team moving into the clinic, Jenn shared that it was all about sharing Christ’s love by truly seeing every guest who walked through the doors as valuable and important. “Christ’s love is demonstrated when we both treat the person’s needs and treat them with dignity. It is not only providing medical and dental care but seeing them in their time of need… These are high-risk, marginalized people that our communities need to be working with. They can’t be forgotten. Someone needs to reach in and embrace them.”

The clinic grew Jenn’s faith as God taught her to lean on both His Spirit and others to cultivate a clinic that not only functioned smoothly but served others well. As she took on the project, there was plenty of trial and error, along with moments when she had to ask others for help. Through it all, she found that it was the united efforts of everyone involved, each offering their “fish and loaves” to the Lord, that made the clinic a success. Every area of service, whether in planning or on the day of the clinic, mattered. “God was saying that no one can do this by themselves and that this is a community effort.”

Jenn continued to reiterate that this was not about one church, but about all of us coming together to bring God’s Kingdom here. The feedback from volunteers was even more encouraging. Many shared with Jenn that they had not been aware of the level of need within their community and were able to see how their service was truly making a difference. 114 volunteers served 211 guests, demonstrating what can happen when a community comes together to serve. And not only that, they said they had FUN. There is so much joy to be found when we embrace the work Jesus has planned for us and step into being His hands and feet.

At the end of our interview, Jenn reiterated, “It’s not about one particular church. It is about seeing the need and partnering with us.” People traveled from as far as 60 miles away to be served at the clinic. Jenn shared how incredible it would be to see even more churches and communities start clinics throughout the valley.

If you feel called to start a clinic in your neighborhood, by God’s grace, you CAN do this. He is faithful to meet us in the places He calls us. There is nowhere we will walk where He has not gone before us.
