As Director of Development you will initiate new donor relationships by sharing your enthusiasm for the Compassion Connect vision. Success requires working as a member of our team to help design the ideal donor development strategy and culture for this new season.


Qualified candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to inspire action in others. You will be responsible for managing our donor database, bringing your problem-solving strengths to help us grow our financial base, and contributing to the overall success of the organization. The role requires an optimistic, driven person who can invest equally in strategic creation and relational development. We are looking for candidates with tenacity, experience, relationship skills, and a heart of compassion for all people.


Compassion Connect is growing and we are looking for an outstanding individual who can help balance innovation with the very practical needs of meeting funding requirements. Candidates must be confident in demonstrating past success in a development role.

Compassion Connect unites local churches to serve their neighbors because we dream of communities experiencing abundant life.  We are searching for a Director of Development who wants to make a difference in the world.  We are a small team of leaders who work with excellence.  We are working to launch regional centers of unity and compassion nationally.  If this sounds exciting and you share these values please read further.


Job Requirements:

  • The skill to inspire individuals and groups by clearly communicating the vision, strategies, and stories of C.C. in the context of partnership development


  • An unmistakable and attractive drive to develop a culture of generosity amongst all people who touch C.C.  This includes board members, staff, volunteers, current and future donors.


  • The commitment and skill to oversee and inspire the current base of financial partners (major donors, monthly donors, and foundations).  This includes database experience and managing a portfolio of more than 400 unique financial partners.  Must be able to report monthly on donor metrics.


  • Experience and comfort building new relationships and talking about financial partnership with strong leaders in the business, church, social sectors, and with foundations.  Proven track record of building new major donor relationships.


  • The capacity to be the primary driving energy behind growing the funding base to see C.C. move to the next level of accomplishing the vision.  Experience raising more than $600k


  • Experience developing and executing an annual plan that includes an individualized engagement strategy for deepening each relationship.  


  • Knowledge of granting world and ability to create strategy for foundation development


  • Experience leading a fundraising banquet and smaller diversified events


  • Ability to set a strategic path, own it, and stick to it in the midst of various regular day to day functions.  Basic word and excel experience needed.


  • The heart and loyalty to be a positive member of an executive team. Must be able to recruit and lead a team of volunteer support for the development department.



  • The spiritual maturity to acknowledge ministry and all its outcomes as a gift from God.


  • The personality that genuinely cares for current financial partners.  This person is someone you are excited to see when they walk in the room.


  • Their drive to build on-going transformational relationships is natural and doesn’t need to be manufactured; they regularly follow up with people because they feel compelled to do so.  


  • Described as a self starter with the ability to identify new partners who align with the values of C.C. and build meaningful relationships with them.


  • Has a relentless/unstoppable drive to complete projects and keep the big picture in view.  A proven track record of this work ethic


  • Deeply resonates with the core values of Compassion Connect and would be an excellent member of a healthy team.


  • Humble enough to work within a small growing organization but also bold enough to help challenge the culture toward growth into what God is calling us to.
